Okay. I am done with my cable company. Today I was watching NFL Wildcard playoffs and saw sling tv commercial. At first I thought it's all known sling box that allows you to watch anywhere whatever you have at home on the road. But this is completely diffirent thing. IT allos you to watch live channels including local live channels for a set fee. For like $25 you get like 40 channels. are you kidding me ? I am so done with cable. I'll have internet only from like FIOS or Optimum and that's that. Now here is the issue.

One thing I simply can't live without is my DVR. Very often I work and can't watch something live so DVR is my live saver and I do need it. Most of the things I need DVR for are live channels.
I do have amazing indoor amplified TV antenna that I picked up on Amazon it called HDFrequency and I get like 25 live local channels and if anything I can live with just that. But having that + this Sling thing ..... I AM SO DONE WITH CABLE.

Now, how do I record this ? I mean I have antenna with coaxial cable coming from it, is there a device that I can connect to that will be able to record shows I want ? Something like Windows Media Center back in a day. It was pretty good, guide was downloaded from internet and you could set to record channels and shows right from that channel guide.

So is there something I can record with ? I guess antenna in with HDMI out, so I connect this "box" to my AVR so this "box" is part of my media infrastructure. And as a bonus I hope it can pickup not only nice HD signal from my over the air antenna but also nice 5.1 channel sound that comes with such channels.

Thank you in advance I'll try to do some more research and if I find anything (for some reason I just remembered TiVo ,,,is it still kicking ?) I'll let you know.

Thank you guys !

P.S.

I wonder is this new Sling TV service have some digital DVR that I can record available channels with. Also I looked out of 6 channels MAIN channels available for me in New York they have ABC, NBC and FOX , bullseye. Because they're the one that broadcast my NFL games. Only some games are on CBS and WB but for that I have my OTA antenna.

Dude there have freeatanding ota DVR boxes available for 10 years+ (ever since the advent of digital terrestrial signal)

What you can buy depends on your country ?

Over here in the UK you can buy a freeview HD+ (our antennae based national TV service)twin tuner box with room for 200 hours+ recording for £50 or so.
