Setting up router as VPN gateway

I have an Asus DSL-AC66U I would like to use as a VPN client but I am having difficulty.

My ISP router is a Technicolor TC7200.U on IP 192.168.0.1
The Asus router is 192.168.1.1

The WAN port on the Asus is connected to the LAN1 port on the ISP router.

I have configured the Asus router Wan connection to use a static IP of 192.168.0.2 and a gateway of 192.168.0.1

With this setup the ASUS router shows as connected to the internet but connecting to the router with a client pc using wifi, no web pages load. The router GUI also fails to connect to the asus server for a firmware update check. Obviously I need to make sure an internet connection is available with the asus router before I can try to configure the asus vpn client. The asus router shows connected regardless of the setting of bridged/router mode in the technicolor router setup but again no webpages load.

Can anybody point me in the direction of where I may be going wrong?

Thanks in advance

Solution
ISP router needs to be in bridged mode
ASUS router needs to establish the connection with ISP. Contact your ISP to determine the correct settings.
