What should my Pagefile Usage be set to for 8GB Ram?

Hi,

I've had my Pagefile Usage set to auto at the settings below since I reinstalled Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium years ago, and last night when I was playing Dark Souls 3 the Aero Theme changed itself also the GPU Usage kept spiking up and down to 100%

Which was making my Temps go up, I checked the Pagefile Usage on MSI Afterburner which it was 10,000MB. I've got 6 hours playtime on Dark Souls 3 and that's the first time it has done that, if Pagefile usage is going way past the Allocated size which is 8183 MB should I manually set it to 8GB or 4GB?

I have 8GB of RAM installed, and this is the first time it's done this.

Minimum allowed: 16 MB
Recommended: 12274 MB
Currently allocated: 8183 MB

If you enable the page file on each physical drive (not on each partition), when a paging operation is needed, Windows will use the page file on the drive that is the least busy at that time, thus having a smaller impact on performance. So go ahead and enable paging on that second drive, just use the same settings as the first drive.

I haven't got round to changing Pagefile Usage yet, but while I was Dark Souls 3 it didn't disable the Aero Theme or make my GPU usage spike up and down like before, I did realise the Pagefile Usage was 10gb so it seems like it's been that high since the start.

Also I'm not really in a position go spending cash on more RAM, do you have any information of your statement about never setting the Pagefile Usage higher then your actual RAM?

For optimal results you should set the minimum page file size to cover ~90% of your use cases. You'll need to watch the page file for a few days/weeks to see where it normally settles out while using the system, then set the minimum page file size to that. Then set max size to anything you like and let Windows manage from that point. This will result in a couple of things:

1. Under normal daily use the page file will not need to be expanded (a very slow & performance sapping process).
2. The page file will not fragment nearly as much (another performance sapper)

If the page file does get expanded it will revert to the minimum size upon restart.

Dark Souls 3 is installed on my Second HDD, should I enable Pagefile Usage on that to lighten the load or something? It's a Seagate 2TB HDD
