I am having a hard time deciding between the lower cost Archer C9 and the more expensive RT-AC68U. If cost wasn't and issue I would get the R7000, but it is beyond my budget.
I want to change one PC to wireless that is more than 15 and less than 20 feet away one floor down. I have two PCs upstairs that will be wired and one phone that will transfer 5Mb of data once per day and I don't care how long that takes to transfer.
The most the wireless PC will be doing is streaming Blu-Ray 1080P video from the upstairs server.

Thank You,
Mark

The reason you likely have a hard time deciding is there is not much difference especially if you only consider wireless. They use exactly the same radio chips so they will more or less get the same coverage and performance. There is a small difference in the CPU but that only matters for cpu intensive stuff.

Mostly the difference will be in the software. I think both support dd-wrt so you can load that if you need more features.

In most cases all the higher end routers more or less perform the same even when the radio chips are not exactly the same. How your house is built will have much more influence on the performance and coverage than some small differences in the radios. Also your end device are 1/2 the communication so...

Also your end device are 1/2 the communication so they will also have a great influence on a connection. Many of the very high end routers that say use 4 antenna are a waste of money for most people because end device commonly only have 2 so they can not use the 4x4 mimo abilities.
