Heya, I have my overclock in my signature below, but I have my CPU and CPU/North Bridge LLC set to high. I have my voltage set to stock (1.404 is plenty for a 4.2 push, my CPU barely notices it). I'm running around 30-38C, with some temp variance "idling" having just background programs, MSI Gaming App (Stock Gaming OC), Open Hardware and CPU-Z on. The voltage readout can bounce between 1.416 to 1.428. No clock throttling even under load (Prime95). Is this normal? Is it the shitty power supply?

Solution
that is just normal vdroop duing load changes and software voltage stepping calculations, seems normal to me. there is no vcore in between the 1.416 and 1.428 you see so the software just picks the closest reading between the two even though the real actual vcore is constantly changing hundreds of times a second, you would see that if you hooked up a good multimeter to it.

evga 600w is all your sig says... and the only 600w power supply that i know of that evga makes is the 600b and its not a relatively good power supply, especially for the setup you have. but its not the reason for your vcore readings.

Yeah I got stuck with it when my Rosewill failed (that thing sucked even worse if you can believe it). I have an old R9 270 and a Phenom 2 chip I'm going to sell, as well as a Tartarus I can't use (injury) and a couple other things. My next upgrade is a better PSU and a little water cooler. That should get me through until I save enough for the Intel build I'm planning.

Thanks for the answer!

well you can reuse a good quality power supply. get a 650w evga g2, it has a 10 year warranty, plenty of wattage for any overclocked single cpu/gpu setup, and you can reuse the 600b later for a second computer or with the fx 8 core and a power friendly gpu.

the 600b is not a horrible power supply, it is actually decent compared to other budget options. but with your other high end parts, and higher wattage parts, its not ideal and is the weakest link.
