Power outage several times since December 31st have caused me to have to use System Restore to an earlier restore point to gain access to the internet.

Modem is connected to PC via ethernet cable.
Internet is accessible through mobile using wireless connection, even resetting the modem.

Firefox fails to recognise the modem but am able to Disable the connection from Device Manager and the light on the modem goes out.

The occurence on Dec 31st 2016 was for 24 hours and somehow corrected itself, but being impatient and a night gamer when this occurs while gaming i need to restore to an earlier system restore point to regain internet access through the PC.

I would say consider yourself lucky that the damage isn't more extensive. Some Harddrives are known for headcrashing when the power suddenly cuts out (often destroying the drive).

I would suggest making a backup of your working system should this happen and also look into investing in a UPS. You don't need one big enough to power your system for hours, just long enough to exit your games and cleanly shutdown until power is restored.
