What means 'Minumum fan RPM speed'?

Hello, recently i bought the CPU cooler (http://www.zalman.com/contents/products/view.html?no=344) and it says that the fan speed limits are 1,000 ~ 1,700 rpm ± 10%, however my cpu doesnt need that much and i set it to spin around 25% in bios to be quiet, and it showed around 950 rpm, so i wonder what happens with the cooler when u set its speed even lower like 600-800 while it says the 1000 is minimum? Can it be damaged or smth? What happens below these 1000? Thank you :)

Nothing bad happens mate, you've set 25% ,25% of that max 1700rpm speed is only 425rpm.

You could set that fan to 5% & it will still only go down as low as 950rpm.
So plainly 950rpm is its lowest possible speed (does say 1000rpm +/- 10%)


What CPU are you actually using??

k il try to set it even lower when i get home and see what happens, thought it will lower the speed even more cus when i set it to 29% it went to 1020 rpm. Im using 3330s i5. Btw it also says PWM Duty Cycle min 30% but how can it go this way if the 50% is already 850 rpm which is below lower limit

ok turned it on and it shows around 800 rpm now. didnt change anything and got no idea whats happening and why its below 1000 and going in such randomness

the estimates on the fan are just that - estimates.
pwm works by sending a pulse signal - on-off-on-off-on-off etc recurring at a straight 12v.
every fan even with the same motor may give varying results.
800rpm probably is the absolute lowere limit that fan will hit using pwm.

Even with 50% set in the bios you are essentially doubling the spacing between those on pulses,800-850 is probably about right (most 120mm fans will have that lower limit) setting the pwm lower in bios - to 25/30% will run it exactly the same speed as its running now.

it went to 758 or so recently and then to 800 with no reason. So if it goes even lower thats not considered some bad cooler and it wont break itself or whatever if it runs far below the minimum rpm stated by the manufacturer? like 1000-10% = 900 minimum stated
