Forums and Youtubers claim that GTX 1060 6gb or RX 480 8gb is what you need to get solid 60 fps for all titles on 1080p on high/ultra settings.

if so,which of the 2 would you recommend me buying atm?

is the GTX 1070 8gb overkill for 1080p monitor?

Games I am playing mostly: BF1 , Star Citizen

Some say that RX 480 is better at DX12 games, surpassing the GTX 1060 in a few FPS and that it's worse on DX11.
Some say it doesn't.
I can't really say for sure as well.

But yeah, isn't nice to keep an eye out for DX12 games as they are likely to become more and more frequent as devs learn to use/optimize for it.

Although i wouldn't make my GPU choice based on only it's performance at some DX games...

Try to get the one more appealing to your eyes and pockets and, within those models RX or GTX i'm sure you will find it great for your set-up

Depends on your monitor, & the price of the GPUs.

The GTX 1060 & RX 480 trade blows depending on the game & the API support (i.e. DX12, Vulkan, etc.). Whichever one has the better deal is probably the right one for you, unless there's a specific game you're interested in that has a very clear winner (& by "clear", I mean more than a 10% difference in performance, & where the losing card dips below your monitor's refresh rate).

If your 1080p monitor, however, has a high refresh rate (i.e. 120-144Hz), then depending on the games you play you might want to consider getting a GTX 1070. The main reason being that it has the horsepower to consistently get near that threshold.

And they are right.
Both GTX 1060 and the RX 480 are the best cards for 1080p atm. Which is better you may ask?
That's really really up to you, as there are lots and lots of debates around that question, you should look further and make your own choice. Although IMO the GTX 1060 is better.

And about the GTX 1070, if you have a 1080p 144Hz monitor i'd say that's your go, as the 1060 may not be able to max-out any game and still get stable 144FPS so i'd advise a stronger card for it.

And, both suggestions above of the 1060 are good, although if they are pricey where you live, you can grab another one. The main differecen between third-party cards are their cooling system, colors scheme, and so on. Their raw performance is basically the same variating in 3 or less FPS while in-game.
