I bought a prebuilt computer in 2015 with Windows 8. I didn't get a code to activate it since it was already running. One of my friends said that I can get a code from within the files of computer that I can use to activate a new set of windows. Is this possible or is there another way I can get Windows, since I don't have money to buy a new copy of Windows 10

Keep in mind, I don't know what your mean prebuilt. If it is from HP or dell, I don't know it will works or not. Otherwise may try the next.
1) If you still use the win8, first you need to upgrade to win10 by the "assistive technologies" from microsoft. ( make sure update all the win8 windows update first) https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

2) After done that, you need update to the win10 1607 build, and link your PC ( OS license ) to your microsoft account. And follow the linker you will save your $, and transfer the win10 to your new MB. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3164428/windows-build-1607-activation.html
