On battery my gaming laptop which is an ASUS GL552 will not go above 30fps or/and only uses integrated graphics for gaming. As soon as I plug in my power lead goes up to 60-50 fps. I have turned off battery saving on Geforce Experience, gone into settings and set it to performance mode. Additionally VSync isn't on in-game. Does anyone have any input or anything else I can try?

Its not uncommon for a laptop to not allow the dedicated GPU to run without the external power source plugged in. Its also fairly common for the GPU to run at reduced clocks until the power is plugged in (mine does this) but at least I get an hour of gameplay on battery :).
I would check with ASUS and see if that normal for your model.
