"The device is not ready" after changing PC case

Hi,

I just bought a new PC case and tranferred everything across from my old one; no problems, everything connected as it was but my HDD wasn't plugged in the first time I booted it up. I noticed this and plugged the SATA back in and everything seemed fine.

However, now whenever I try to open up a program on my HDD which is a Samsung HD103SJ (most are installed there because my SSD is small and just for Windows - I'm running Windows 8.1) it comes up with the path to the application and "the device is not ready". It takes a while of doing nothing to come up with this error. Steam, Origin and my browsers are running just fine though. Tried playing a game and that was fine.

Any ideas? I had AVG installed but that won't start either so I could do with my antivirus back at the very least.

I think so! But I might try switching the SDD and HDD connectors and see what happens, might have been stuck in the wrong way. If that doesn't help I'll try device manager tomorrow, I've given up on it for now. Thanks for replying!

Ok so I've tried switching the SATA ports and that did nothing, really. As well as this I can't open any diagnostic or system tools such as computer management or device manager - I just get "the device is not ready" again.

In safe mode though I can start and run everything fine. Really not sure what to do, I've tried a system refresh a few times but that wouldn't work and I don't particularly want to wipe my pc altogether.
