Should I use RAID for a 1TB SSD and 4TB HDD

When I built my PC, I built it with gaming in mind only. Since then, my photography business has grown and I will be doing a lot of important assignments for engineering school such as 3D modeling. I'm moving to upgrade my computer's ram and storage for better performance. I currently have a 256GB SSD and 4TB HDD. Now I would like to upgrade to a 1TB M.2 SSD as a working/scratch disk. That's not the problem though. I need to make sure all of my files are safe. I have so many photos, videos and projects I cannot afford to lose. I was looking into RAID 1 as a possible solution, mirroring the SSD to a 1 TB HDD and the 4TB to another 4TB. This doesn't seem to be able to protect them from viruses and other threats though, just drive failure. I am also concerned that mirroring to a slower drive may slow down my SSD. Would RAID or back up programs be best? If backup program, any recommendations? The goal is to back up both drives in the background so I don't have to do much past setup. Should I consider another drive configuration? I still want the speed of that M.2 SSD but if there is a better way of setting this up I may consider changing.

Opinions?

My current setup:
Mobo - MSI z97 Gaming 7
CPU - 4790K
RAM - 8GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance
GPU - GTX780
Storage - 256GB PNY SSD, 4TB WD HDD
PSU - Corsair TX650M
Cooler - Corsair H100i
Case - Corsair Obsidean 450D

1TB SSD and 4TB HDD?
RAID (of any type)?

No, not even a little bit.
No way no how.

Different size drives and types bring performance to the lowest of each level. Speed of the slowest, size of the smallest.

In a residential situation, RAID of any type is rarely the answer.

M2 as boot drive, windows and apps.
4TB as a backup drive.
if you were to RAID-1 the drives the 4TB drive would be partitioned as a 1TB drive and the three TB would not be accesible, not only that the array can only run at the speed of its slowest member. meaning all the speed on the SSD would be lost to wait for the HDD.
RAID with different drives is called JBOD and would not be for your situation.

That makes sense. Any suggestions?
