SO CLOSE! Stability issues on FX8320 at 4.6Ghz

Hey there, does anyone have any idea why I wouldn't be able to reach 4.6ghz on an FX 8320? My rigs in my signature, and I've seen plenty of posts from other people reaching it with a single 140 radiator i80. Could it be my motherboard being a 970? Or RAM (considering trading or selling my PNY stick and keeping my HyperX)? Or should I be modifying the BUS frequency instead of the multiplier? I was pushing 1.456 CPU voltage, and could open Windows, but would crash right quick. I made it into prime95, but didn't even get to see the test start. I tried it with one stick of RAM (even though I have different brands the latency and timing are the same) to no avail.

Nearing 1.5 on the voltage , will generate a lot of heat in instability , you have probably hit the limit for your CPU as all of them have different potential. The board has a 7+1 power phase design and a decent thermal setup. I would say your right at the potential of your hardware.

Yep. Reasons include:

1. silicon lottery of chip
2. motherboard power delivery
3. cooling efficiency (liquid cooler probably fine)
4. PSU power delivery

It is likely the chip itself, but it can be a combination of more than one. My advice is to backoff further (200Mhz away from instability). If you go right to the limit in testing you can still be producing errors now or a few months later.

That is assuming the OP didn't just go into the bios and start cranking the multiplier and voltage without doing anything else. If I reset my bios to stock then just set the voltage to 1.45v and increased the multiplier to get to 4.6ghz and nothing else, i'm pretty sure I would fail to boot or crash soon after.

Okay, so probably best to keep it at 4.4Ghz? And I can post screens of my settings, but I didn't just change the modifier and voltage. I'll bbiaf with those screen shots.

This Corsair 750 is a beast, and brand new, so I don't think it's the PSU. The chip is about a year old, so it could be that. I have an H100i V2 240mm, and I ALWAYS LOSE THE LOTTERY, PHOTONBOY! It's a sensitive subject why would you bring it up? ;-)
