How long to wait before building a PC?

Hey,
I am looking to build a new PC before the end of 2017 and would consider myself to be fairly uninformed. I hope to do much more research in the month before I buy all the parts, but I need to know when the best ratio of performance to price occurs during the year (Conventions/New releases of parts would bring this ratio up I imagine).

My price range is around $1000-1200, but flexible

I would be willing to wait for the first quarter of 2018 or buy it now, but I would much prefer a late 2017 build.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

The best time to buy/build a PC is when you need it, and you have the money.

New things coming out to wait for? Well, the new thing from AMD, RyZen, is coming out quite soon. By mid summer 2017 it should be fleshed out and any initial problems fixed.

Or, whatever the newest thing from Intel is at that time.

But basically, start speccing out parts no earlier than 30 days or so before you want it.
Then decide on a parts list and pull the trigger.
If you 'wait', there is always something new on the horizon, and you will be waiting forever.

Answer 1= I would like to have the PC completely finished by January/Febuary 2018

Answer 2= I have a gaming laptop that I bought in early 2014 (https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT70-Dominator-895-9S7-1763A2-895-17-3-Inch/dp/B00IMTQ6I6) - (I think this is the one, if I need to double check I will)

Answer 3 = I have a keyboard, monitor, mouse, and headphones. I will not be upgrading any current system.

I might sell my laptop if it is worth it after the build is finished.

2018? You are a patience man. :)

I don't think there are like Black Fridays for PC parts. You may be able to buy last-year technology for cheaper(?) if you know what you are looking for and need.

Is generally not a good idea to spread out your purchases and put off build until months later... by the time you find out a part is faulty, it will be too late to return it.
