I currently have a Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Zotac brand. Recently it has started to get extremely warm (HOT) when playing games; I have already checked the fan, heatsink, etc for debris, but that all seems fine; I am trying to figure out what I can replace it with; Am I correct is understanding that any GTX 970 would work as a replacement or do I have take other things into consideration. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any idea what else could be causing the issue? I've read various things about other causes of problems, such as bios failing (which didn't make sense). I did the entire cleaning bit I could (compressed air, small vacuum) but it still seems to run hot

Well, when running Diablo 3 last night, it shut it self off (screen went black, PC still running); I rebooted the PC, started up CPUID HW Monitor, saw the card sitting @ 36C, started D3 again, and it started climbing to about 79C - 81C, at which point it went black screen again. I checked the card at that point, saw a bit of dust, aired it, vacuumed it, then restarted the pc and booted up Smart Game Booster Monitor, started a different game (World of Warcraft) and after about 5 minutes or so, it gave me an alert that the GPU was getting hot and to check the heat sink and fans, at which point I decided not to run games till I figure out what to do.

EDIT - also, forget to mention, the fans are running, though I think they may be slow

I really suggest you use EVGA Precision and change the fan speeds. Or edit the temp/fan ratio. I can't for the life of me remember what's it called. Ex: "If load 80% then fan 90%

I did look at the program you suggested, but I'm not sure exactly what I do with it. I was able to figure out how to make the fun run faster, but I had read a post that this may actually cause the fans to become unstable; the current info it shows (without any games running) is GPU Clock 135 MHZ, Memory Clock 324 MHZ, Voltage 875 MN, GPU Temp 33C
