Hi,

Have an Apacer AE501 card reader. Haven't really used it for SD cards lately. Now that I find myself needing to use it, I have found that when i try to connect a SD or microSD it does not show. However the USB drive it it works fine.
There are no drivers for it listed on the Apacer website, on device manager I can see a USB device as: Unknown USB Device (Device descriptor request failed) Have disabled and re enabled this and still no change. Tried Win 10 Hardware troubleshooter and still nothing.

Thanks for any help

The driver for any card reader is built in to Windows, hence the manufacturers don't supply a driver since they don't need to.

Card readers can be unreliable beasts. I would try another one and if it works okay, dump your Apacer.

I bought a cheap no-name one that didn't always work, so I bought two branded the same name as two card manufacturers (Lexar & Kingston I think) and they have been very reliable. Got them from Amazon.

With cheap items like card-readers, pen drives etc. it really makes sense to try a new one before posting as that alone could solve the problem.
