Just like the title says, I want to know exactly what an SSD can do and, more importantly, if I need one in other to play. I'm building a good gamer pc and would like to know if its really necessary to have one, since they cost an arm and a leg where I live.

Solution
They make huge difference in loading Windows, starting apps and games, loading levels in-game, and all other stuff related to loading and saving data. In terms of FPS in games, they don't help at all.

frames per second they do not help as said above, but loading the levels will take much shorter time. I.E rainbow six siege you will not finish loading last if you have got the game installed on a ssd, spin disk well you will be the one everyone is waiting on.,
