Installing Gigabyte 1080 to a ASUS Rampage IV Mobo

Hey,

I have just fit my 1080 onto my mobo (see title). When I removed the previous two gpus, I had to undo a safety clip sort of thing that was holding them both in. I assumed that when I installed the 1080 I would need to fasten that down securely. However, the gpu is big and covers the clip meaning I cannot get to it to secure it down.
Will this be an issue? The gpu is running smoothly atm.

Thanks

It should have pushed closed. Maybe try sticking something in there gently to push it shut, it shouldn't take much force. If you can't its not a huge deal, but preferable.

The gpu will still work if you dont secure the clip, assuming all the pins are making contact in the pci slot. Just be aware if you move the pc your gpu could fall out of its slot without the clip especially if you dont have the GPU IO plate screwed into the case. Even giving the case a good knock could dislodge the gpu and make it so all the pins don't make contact.

I am referring to that clip. I have tried working around it. I cannot in anyway get to it and it looks like the clip wouldn't even move as the gpu seems to be sitting on top of it.

The gpu is running amazingly without the clip secured. I have GPU IO plate screwed in extremely tightly and securely.

If you pulled the clip open to remove your old cards, when you insert the new one it should push it shut, there is a little catch inside of it to do that. If you can get your hand in there to be sure it would be preferable, but if not I would not worry about it.

As long as all the pins make contact you should be good. If its securely screwed to the case I probably wouldn't worry about it if its that hard to get to the clip.

I pulled the clip all the way open when I removed the old cards and left it all the way across. Should I have moved it back to the fastened position before I placed the gpu? Meaning the gpu would have pushed it down?

No leaving it open is the correct way, so if you did that and inserted the GPU you're fine

Yeah I did that. And now the clip has stayed open. So I guess I cannot secure it due to the size of the gpu.

I can't do that, I have tried. I need to pull the clip forward first and then push it to secure it. I cannot even pull it forward as the gpu is in the way.

I agree a photo would help.

I have added two pictures. One of them is the empty PCI slots, so you can see what the open clips look like. The other is the used slot. It is hard to see the clip, its under the ROG sign. You can see however, that the position of the clip is the same as the other empty slots.

Ok I see,

To confirm, when you put the GPU in it was all the way open, as far as it could possibly go? Because if you look closely in your second pic you can see the tab I am talking about that closes it.

It looks like you should be able to get a flathead screwdriver in there and gently push it towards the back of the case to close it. Be VERY careful when doing this that you don't scratch the board. Hence GENTLE

Yes, the clip was all the way open when I put the GPU in. Do you mean the tab at the end of PCI slot? The tab pulls forwards first and then you push it down. So it secures to the left, if you get what I mean. I will try gently pushing backwards though.

There is no way I can push it left at all. I have pushed it as far right as it can go. Think I will just leave it at that - SgtScream, you're probably right. Worrying for no reason.

Thank you so much for all the help! I would have just been sat worrying about it otherwise!
