Alright, so I think I am a little lost here, and I am not sure if some where on the internet this is answered as explicit as I need it to be. I'll explain what I have, what I did, and what I want to do.

I have a 256GB SSD and a 300GB HD. I have successfully nuked my drives and installed windows 10 onto the SSD. So far, I am really happy, but now I am having trouble setting up my hard drive. My disk manager see the drive, but I can't seem to write to it. I am not sure whether to use GPT or MBR or what they mean exactly. As you might be able to tell, I would like to use this HD for storage only.

Thanks for your help in advanced.

Hey there, battlefurey.

When you've nuked the drive you've basically low level formatted it. This means that you have to initialize it again in order to be able to partition and format, so that it can appear again in Windows Explorer (This PC, My Computer). GPT and MBR are partition tables. Basically MBR is the older format and has some limitations (e.g. you can't use more than 2TB), but in your case this is irrelevant since the drive is only 300GB. So you can go with whichever option you like best.

Here's how to initialize a drive: How to initialize or write a signature to a secondary hard drive or Solid State drive in Windows

Hope that helps.
