CPU went from 4.2Ghz to 4Ghz

My PC is a pre-built and it game with my CPU (AMD Athlon X4 880k) @4.2Ghz, and it has been like that since I've had it, until today when I realised that it has gone to 4.00Ghz without me changing anything. Why has this happened and how can i get it back to 4.2Ghz? Thanks

Only thing I can think of is a BIoS reset. What are you using to monitor cpu clock speed?

BIOS may have been reset, it may be heating up more causing the CPU the throttle some, or you operating system may be somehow reporting the true speed wrong for some reason. you should try using a program like CPU-Z to check out what frequency your CPU is actully running at

In the BIOS I clicked OC Tuner and my pc automatically restarted and the clock speed was at 4,2Ghz again! Thanks for the reply
