So im not really looking to overclock unless it is 100% safe. But i went into Intel's XTU program and ran a benchmark test.

I7 4790k
Score was 877
Max processor freq. 4.40ghz
Highest CPU temp 72°C

But when i went to compare online, there were others a lot higher score than me..in the 1000 region with the same or slightly lower cpu freq. I have a MSI Z97a gaming 7 mobo and 16gb of ddr3.

Does anyone know why this might be? Also does anyone think it would be safe to push it anymore, after seeing the results above???. I dont really notice anything holding back my gaming experience but i do like to play a bit of arma3, and ive heard that said game 'loves' an overclock haha.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks

1. It is 100% ... you basically have to almost **try** to cause damage.

2. While XTU isn't a *scary* synthetic test, it is still a synthetic test and therefore of little value for testing stability under real world multitasking scenarios. Would suggest using RoG Real Bench. The synthetic tests will be useful for getting your name on web site leader boards but if you built your PC to run applications then an application based stress test will serve you better.

3. There are about a half dozen metrics that measure CPU temperature, the one that matters is Core Temp on each core. Suggest HWiNFO for measuring temps... run "sensors only"

4. The average and mean OC on the 4790K s i recall is 4.7 Ghz

5. Did you just raise CPU multiplier or cache also ? This will improve image editing scores if you keep cache multiplier within 3 of CPU multiplier.

6. DDR3-1660 or better ?

7. Vcore max ? (from HWInfo)

Hi thanks for your reply, i havent changed any settings whatsoever to any of my hardware. And my ram isnt that speed, its slower like 1330ish?
What is vcore max? Sorry but im new to all this and all the terms melt my brain haha. I only went on to the program as i was just curious as to how my build would perform. Unless there is anything wrong, i will leave as is. It said my score was 'good'. But if i can squeeze a little more out of it i dont see why not.
Thanks again
