Mic doesn't pick up sound it only picks up when i tap on it

So ive been trying forever to get my mic to work on my computer but it wont pic up any sound ive tried the front and back ports and nothing. However it pics up audio when i tap my headphone or blow into it I really need help!

Right click your sound icon in the bottom right on the taskbar. Click recording devices. Find your microphone and right click it and select properties. Click the levels tab and you should be able to increase it's input.
