Should I buy a refurbished i5 2400 for $108 or an new i3 6100 or should I wait for Zen ..I need these for purely budget gaming... my next upgrade might take some time .thanks for answering

Solution
FX6xxx are a terrible idea. Significantly outperformed by the i3 6100 or i5 2400 in games due to its very weak single core performance. It also uses end of life motherboards and,RAM.

I would opt for the i3 6100. I am yet to see a benchmark where this CPU cant acheive a minimum of 50 fps. It also uses a current motherboard socket and RAM giving much better upgrade options in the future.

For a budget gaming CPU. I'd say either an AMD FX 6350 or FX 6300. However, since you're throwing out Intel CPU's I am guessing you have an intel motherboard. So I would say the i3 6100 you pointed out. But like Faktion said, it will not be amazing but will get some gaming done.

Agreed, the i3 6100 has better multi-threaded performance than the FX-6300 despite having fewer cores. The FX is simply not a competitive choice anymore, unless you can find a screaming deal on it.

The i3 6100 is a better choice than the i5. They'll trade blows, but the i3 is new and a board for it will have new features and connectivity, and a warranty.

Some other contenders:

Pentium G4560 - basically an i3, 2c4t, and only $65
i3 7100 - same price as the 6100 but faster
