Setup:
i7 6700k
ASUS z170-A
16GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 ram
MSI GTX 1060
Crucial MX300 m.2/mSATA SSD

Just assembled my new pc but having issues getting my Crucial mx300 set up. I've updated to the latest BIOS (3007), made sure that SATA Express and AHCI is selected in the BIOS, and tried installing the correct drives during the Windows 10 installation to no avail. I'm so confused at what it could be. Is there a process to getting the drive initialized? The weirdest part is the SSD isn't a PCI-E SSD but an mSATA drive but when I select M.2 instead of SATA Express it actually shows in the BIOS. That's as far as I've gotten.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. And I'll owe you a beer, or three.

The video shows that you should "select m.2" and not "SATA Express" even though, to me, that doesn't make sense since it's technically mSATA. But I guess, as long as you have the M.2 selected in the bios it supports M.2 and mSATA.

Let me know if that helps!

I did get it working right away with that solution. Make sure M.2 is selected. Save and exit bios and restart.

Another thing I had to do, when booting up the first few times, was press the memory reset (i think) button on the mobo because the first few time my mobo would hang on the start up process. Not sure if it was specifically because my ram doesn't show as supported on the Asus site or what.

Not sure if that's helpful.

I reset the bios, and set the bios to M.2. I also re-read the beginning of your post, and set the AHCI to ahci only (not both). That worked!!

Thanks for the help p0lyawnd.

Now I owe you a beer (or three) :)

Awesome davidjimm. Glad you got it sorted out. It was a bit of a head scratcher at first but once I got the settings right it made perfect sense. Cheers!
