Why do I have low FPS when I have a good GPU?

My PC specs are:

Processor: AMD A6-6400K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 3.90GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050

But when I play DOTA 2 or CS:GO the FPS is well below 35. Sometimes when I play CS:GO I get the BSOD and I don't know what to do. My older GPU was the Radeon R7 240 which did poorly on both of the games that's why I upgraded. Just recently changed to GTX 1050. What do I do?

Solution
Well I know dota 2 does like a fast CPU I'm assuming your problem is that amd 6400k you could always try overclocking it too squeeze some more performance

So do I really need to upgrade the CPU to get the maximum performance of my GPU?

All of those games should fly on your configuration, even if it is an APU.The fact that you get a BSOD indicates other problems, you should first check that.My brother runs dota 2 on an overclocked q6600 at 3 ghz with an r7 250 and it gets more than 60 fps,and in cs go with medium high settings you can get 180.Since your system is much more powerfull than that, you need to look somewhere else.Monitor the temperatures with msi afterburner when you play and post back.
