How do I know for sure if my CPU is dead?

Ok so recently I upgraded my ancient AMD system to a brand new one that consists of an FX 6300, Asus 970 Pro Gaming/Aura, Asus R7 360, 8GB of Corsair Vengence and a 500W Thermaltake SmartPower Power Supply. The main system is less than a month old.

Now because I want to do some overclocking I went out and bought a Corsair H55 AIO liquid cooler just yesterday and after putting it in it worked phenomenonally for the first 14 hours. The following day when I tried to boot the computer up my motherboard started spitting out CPU errors from the Easy Debug LED's mounted on the motherboard. Now without a case speaker this has been the best I've had to work with.

I have tried possibly everything in order to get it to work and so far none have been successful. I have tried:

- Resetting CMOS
- Reinserting coin battery
- Reseating RAM in different slots
- Reseating the CPU
- Blowing both the pins and socket with compressed air
- Changing thermal paste
- Trying a basic air cooler
- Trying the stock cooler
- Checking all cable connections
- Trying to boot without any drives attached
- Reseating the Graphics Card

On top of all this, I'm struggling to establish if my CPU is dead or if my motherboard has been fried and is sending out false inputs. Due to the RGB lighting on the board being constantly on, even while the computer is shut down, it's hard to tell which piece of hardware is dead if any at all. I know that my power supply is fine as I tested that. The same with my GPU and RAM as I tested it all on an intel 1150 socket testbed.

The reason I am asking if my CPU is actually dead or not is because if it really isn't a dud, every company is prepared to charge $50 for wasting their time fumbling around with a working CPU on a test bench. The computer turns on, all fans spin at a positive rate; no excessive speeds - but nothing is displayed on my monitor and the debug LED lights up. I cannot reach the bios or boot screen and the computer isn't stuck in a repetitive boot cycle. It just displays a blank screen.

I'm at a loss right now...

Please help.

Kind regards :)

Note: at the time of the defective boot, no overclocking had been done on the CPU.

I don't know that you can know for certain. You're right in that it's almost certainly one or the other, but without spare parts to swap in (e.g. 2nd CPU) you're not going to be able to isolate it.

Dead CPUs are extremely rare, but they do happen. Failed boards are far more common, but it's interesting that it's giving you LED codes for a dead CPU.

Ok well after reading over the AMD and Asus warranty booklets as well as a few forums to gather a little bit of intelligence about motherboard and CPU failures, I decided to RMA the CPU and to take the motherboard with me for testing to the place I bought both...

Turns out the motherboard fried itself and the CPU was actually in 100% working order.

Anyway, the replacement M5A99FX they gave me will do for now :D they were so kind in apologizing due to having no stock of the 970 Pro Gaming/Aura.
