Hey guys,

Need your input about my newly acquired AC1200 Realtek 812AU based USB 3.0 cards.

My setup:
- Asus ROG laptop with USB 3.0 and SSD on Win7
- Netgear R7000 AC1900 router located 5 ft away without any wall in between
- Synology 5-bay 7200 RPM NAS

I first installed the drivers, then plugged the card in.

Results when downloading 5 to 10 gigabytes MKV files from my NAS: 160 mbps. It'll never go higher than that.

As a comparison, my mid 2014 Macbook Pro averages 700 mbps when downloading the same files on the same NAS from the same distance.

My USB 3.0 port is working fine. With a Sandisk Extreme card I can get up to ~1000 mbps on the port.

I tried a different USB 3.0 cable, no success. I tried to relocate the AC1200 receiver, no success. I even tried to play with every single advanced parameter of my driver, no success. As a last resort, I updated the driver to a newer one from a different website (December 2016), no success.

First Windows shows transfer speeds in MB (megabytes), so are you getting 160Mb (megabit) or 160MB ? Although I don't think you could get 160MB from a wired NAS since it would be limited to gigabit (110MB/s) ...

What does Windows show as the link speed on that device ?

My MBP has a AC1300 card. Both are rated at 867 mbps in the config (link speed).

I did some more tests tonight.

3 MKV files totalling 20 gigs. Both machines at the same distance.

Realtek 812AU, 16:20 or 164 mbps
Macbook Pro: 4:20 or 618 mbps

The difference is simply too big. There must be something wrong with the Realtek which has better antennas.

If you mean RTL8812AU; they're crappy. I've got an adapter that uses this chipset, the drivers dont work. From the site.

Windows 10 installs the drivers, but it's unstable., and the wireless networks around me keep disappearing

If I knew this before I brought these online, I wouldn't have bothered
