Dear all,

I'm looking at upgrading to either a 1060 or 1070 (depending whether I want to use part of budget on other gadgets; in all likelihood, full budget will go to GPU).

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: This week
BUDGET RANGE: $200-450 Before Rebates

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming (diverse; Diablo 3, Warframe, Skyrim heavily modded, etc.), ESRI Arcmap 10.x with large rasters and high item count feature classes (I want Arc to re-render quickly when I move the workspace view area), movies.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: MSI Geforce GTX 560ti (SLI, but I took one card out because SLI wasn't working), Corsair CXM 750 Watt

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: CPU i5 2500k LGA1155, Mobo Gigabyte z68 x p-ud3, RAM GSkill 8GB (2x 4GB). Windows 7 64bit.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Amazon (Prime) or Newegg, whichever is cheaper for the same card.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA, midwest

PARTS PREFERENCES: Prefer Nvidia

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe (low maintenance, I dont want to mess it up and fry it)
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No (I do not plan on SLI right now because of bad experience with 2x 560ti's, but a card that has confirmed good compatibility for SLI in case I add one in the future would be nice but not required).

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Current 1680x1050 with DVI; adding soon a 1920x1080 with DVI/VGA; Card with duel DVI preferred.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Needs duel monitor support; this will not be for gaming, but working with multiple windows of web browsers, Arcmap, Python, and R. VR ready a plus, but not required.

CURRENT CONSIDERATIONS (Certainly open to other suggestions):
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 Mini (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125893&cm_re=nvidia_geforce_gtx_1070-_-14-125-893-_-Product)

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-08G-P4-6173-KR/dp/B01GX5YWAO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1484167424&sr=1-1&keywords=geforce+gtx+1070&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin%3A2883206011)

QUESTIONS: What are differences between "mini"s and normal GPUs; just form factor? My case is pretty large, so not really an issue, but some of the mini's I see are cheaper, sub $400, than other 1070's and I've seen good reviews for the Mini linked just above.

Cheers,
Nate

I'm willing to go up to an extra $100 over the 1060 prices for a 1070 if the performance difference and longevity are significant. The only 1070 I can find with 2 DVI ports under $400 is the mini; total $360 after rebate.

In a 1060 I'm looking at 6GB vram and 2 DVI ports, Gigabyte has most promising looking one at $260.

With the age of my system would the $100 difference between 1060 vs 1070 be better spent on more RAM (currently have 2x 4GB sticks) or saving to upgrade the whole rig?
