M.2 SSD in a PCIe x1 Slot

I'm wondering whether an M.2 SSD that has 490MB/s Reads and 460MB/s writes will be affected when used in a PCIe x1 slot (Gen 2) as one PCIe lane is 500MB/s.

  1. Not worth it. A good SATA SSD will be just as fast in real life operations, and significantly cheaper
  2. they don't actually fit in a PCI-E slot, you know that don't you? You need an adaptor that requires a certain number of lanes, or a slot on the mobo.
  3. That's a SATA interface M2, not an NVME. Just get a regular 2.5" one with the same speed and use a SATA port.
  4. That's the thing I have an open ended PCIe x1 slot on my mobo from a previous project and I dont have space in the case for a sata SSD (long story)
