Hey guys my friend has a phenom x4 9850.. on a Asus M3A MOBO.. We're trying to OC.. anywhere past 2.5ghz.. from what I've researched 3.0GHZ should be a stable OC.. what do we need to change in his bio settings as I'm a bit confused.. not sure if I need to tinker with the ram timings or what.. Heres his ram and cpu specs

I'd leave the HT at default (auto) for now. Let it adjust dynamically.
When you raise the clock speed of the CPU, it sometimes needs more voltage (vcore) to maintain the faster clock.

As to the RAM speed, I'm not familiar with that old board's BIOS. But try to use what settings are available to get the RAM clock speed back near its default.

Another thing that may be holding you back; the board. That motherboard, while good quality, is not designed for serious OC'ing. 4+1 phase power, no heat sinks on the VRMs...
There could be numerous reasons why you are at your limit and have no control over.

What option is Bclk in bios? We got his cpu up to 2.9ghz by increasing the FSB to 235.. however if we go any higher then 235 he cant boot into windows.. what would I need to adjust to get his FSB to 240 so that he can have 3.0ghz?

Hes using a Asus M3A Mobo.. the highest we can get the FSB to is 237 and thats without changing any other settings

Your RAM is probably too high now. You have to adjust the multiplier for the memory back down to keep it as close as possible to its rated speed. If that board doesn't have a multiplier for RAM, select a lower speed from those offered.

Also we have t he HT Link Speed maxed at 2.0ghz as I read somewhere to do that.. should we have it set to that or to auto.. And youre saying I need to decrease the ram speed? What would that option be called.. i went into the ram timings in bios and i see that i can change the mhz.. but it only goes up 470 to 1253.. so how do I lower?

Have not raised the voltage yet we fooled around raising the ram voltage but still wouldn't put it past 235 for FSB.. what voltage would I need to increase do you recommend? Because there are a few voltage options and they are all set to auto.. so how do I know what my voltage is by default so that I know how much to increase to?
