Cloning w/ resizing partitions starts on page 44

Select the source, select the Target...

on page 45, it tells you that you can "Edit" the structure on the Target drive. On the newer versions of the program, it is called "Layout" Select that and you should see the "as is" display of the partition distribution on the target.

If you mouse over the ends of a partition block, the cursor changes indicating an action. You can move as well as resize the partitions to meet your needs... What your goal is, is to set the OS partition as large as you can make it. This means shrinking the Recovery to just a tiny...
That's easy... the cloning utility allocated the extra space to the recovery partition.

do it over and resize the C OS drive to have the extra space and reduce the recovery partition to only be a gig or so larger than the space required..

lol... OK... the cloning software asks you for a source disk...

Select it

then it asks for a destination disk, select the new 2TB HDD

BEFORE you tell it to start, there should be a way to "customize" the drive layout. Open that and you should have the ability to resize the individual partitions, as shown in this section. Most let you "slide" the sizes around to suit you needs.

In the image you linked, I see that the second "Recovery" partition has a size of 1.23TB of space. This is where all you drive space went.

In the cloning you'll need to reduce that drives allocation and give the space to the OS/C: drive section that is in the image as c: and F: at 500GB.

///\\\ ? Better?

The issue is that the HP's (and most computers) factory hard drive has multiple partitions on the single physical drive. So, you C:, D:, and F: drives are partitions on the factory Hard drive.

I know you "just want the 500GB" from the original. However, for the computer to function with the 2TB in it, you need the rest of them.

Redo the cloning like I said above and adjust the target (2TB drive) to reflect what you want. ... the OS partition with the bulk of the space in the 2TB

OK...

transfer mode, use Manual Mode

Steps 5, 6, but not 7

Step 6
6. [This step is only available in the manual cloning mode]. On the Change disk layout step, you can
edit settings of the partitions that will be created on the destination disk. Refer to Manual
partitioning (p. 47) for details.

I use a different product, EaseUS ToDo Backup. It's cloning tool allows sliders to move and resize the target partitions. It does not look like this tool really does this.

If you cannot do this, I am sorry, I can only lead you by the hand so far..
