My dad wants a computer for sound recording and sound editing and the thing is, I'm not sure what to come up for him. I figured that a quad core processor would be a nice option, although if a dual core with hyper-threading,or not, is just as good an option then that would be great. I wanted to get an Intel processor, not out of bias or anything but because I thought that it's more convenient to choose a CPU that's actually accessible to me that provides better performance from each individual core. But the real big one for me is the matter of the sound card, I know next to nothing about this component, or if it's necessary at all.
Just a small heads up for any suggestions: any parts you recommend must be a good deal below $200, roughly $20 or more, especially if it weighs any more than a kilogram. Because I am unfortunately importing from Uruguay where I am forced to work with such a limitation. Don't worry about PSU or case because I have to get those here, but please feel free to suggest wattage for the build.

I am a music producer of recording company for my second company. My main work is as electrical engineer. I can suggest to your that to get AMD processor. To get an AMD processor, motherboard also must have to support the AMD as well.

When it comes to music making, it is all about performance. I dont care what gear will you use on recording tools and software, the most important things is speed processing. If you asking others Intel music producer user, they will got the same idea as mine.

AMD can overclocking to make your processor become more faster than it should have. The more faster, the more quicker to render the audio and do multiple tasking while in recording. AMD processor designed to do the heavy duty work. GPU is most important after CPU because you must to use GPU processing to render fast to work if you not reliable to CPU only.

Power supply must minimum on 750watts because when you plug in others tools to your motherboard, this will take much power to consume. Set your PC to performance usage not as balance usage.

CPU minimum spec 3GHZ. Ideal spec for music recording is almost similar as gaming spec to do heavy duty task. I suggest you install 64bit OS and RAM minimum installed 8GB. The bigger spec is the best always. Lastly, use Static Solid Drive or SSD as primary OS installation.

If you need suggestion on software or tools on music recording spec for MAC or PC, you can ask me because I got both super spec at my recording company just for artist user type.

If there is anything in it that can be replaced for a better deal please tell me. So I'm guessing a sound card isn't necessary at all. Yes, I'm going to need some help searching out software and tools for what I'm looking for. Just nothing "fancy" as he more or less puts it, as in too profesional if that makes sense. For software, freeware is preferable.
