Inno3d geforce 1060 heating problems

Will keep this short and simple. A friend of mine bought an inno3d gtx 1060. But there seems to be some issues with the heating.

He tried playing BF1, and the temperature shoots up to roughly 82 degrees, and it keeps this temperatures no matter the settings being changed. He also tried playing Diablo 3 however the issue remains. It seems no matter what game and setting he tries the temperature is a constant 82-84c and we both feel this is a bit high when you look a game like diablo 3 even on low.

Idle temperature is around 40c, load / heavy load 82-84c.

His specs:
intel i5-4460 3,2ghz
8GB ram
Inno3d geforce 1060 6GB

I do not remember his mobo unfortunately.
I would like to hear if anyone has any potentials fixes or knowledge regarding this matter. Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully answering on the thread :)

This is above average temp, but still not high for a GPU. GPUs usually run hotter than CPUs, and are designed to shutdown at 110C, usually. You are fine as long as it doesnt pass 90C, it will work even then but might stutter from time to time.

The best you can do, unless you replace the entire cooling on the card (voids the warranty and expensive), is to replace the computer case with a bigger model with better airflow.

So from your answer I take it that, getting a better case with greater airflow is the best/only way to reduce the amount of heat it produces? Is it not possible to make it not run with as much power or target the temperature I would like? It is possible with asus, however; it is first time I have seen the model inno3d

It is possible by forcing the GPU to render less FPS - if your monitor supports 60fps, there is actually no need for the card to work harder than it needs to. Many games support "target framerate" of "software framerate limit". This is even supported by MSI Afterburner utility (works globally for all games). Don't own Nvidia currently, so don't know if their drivers support that feature - AMD does, it is called "framerate target control". Set that to 60 fps, and you will certainly see less heat output.

Turning on vsync is another option, but it introduces input lag, so it is not quite as flexible.

This is already on 60fps with v-sync enabled. I guess he has to invest in a bigger case then, thanks for the help :)

there's a simple way to do that..... what i do is, i go to inno 3d web, and download inno tune it

its an OC program... u can limit ur temperature as u want with reducing its voltage....

my idle temp is 47, and playing game in ultra 60fps, i make max at 70 celcius (Sniper elite 4, Far cry Primal, hellblade senuas sacrifice, etc etc)

u might want to try that.....

here's the link

http://www.inno3d.com/static.php?refid=11

and running in high temp will make ur gpu lifeshorter....
