I've just completed a newbuild and stupidly purchased a motherboard without an S/PDIF Out connector, which I used previously to connect my PC to my old home theatre system for sound (it only has this connection).

My motherboard - Gigabyte Intel GA-Z270-Gaming K3 LGA 1151 ATX - has an SPDIF Out Header (2 pin = 1 SPDIFO, 2 GND), this is what I misread in the spec for a connection.

Would something like this allow me to connect SPDIF from my motherboard to my sound system?

I'm a bit wary of buying something like this off eBay in case it's poor quality and damages my motherboard. Would a cheap sound card with optical out be better? Any recommendations if so?

Thanks for any advice/suggestions
