Hello TH Forum,

I am new in this forum, please pardon me if i make mistakes in my language.

I have a PC with this specs right now :
- i3 6100
- MSI GTX 970 4G Gaming
- Corsair Dark Vengeance 8GB(2x4)
- Corsair CX500 80+
- MSI H110M-PRO-VD D3
- 500 GB HDD
- TT Commander Gaming Case

I'm looking to upgrade my PC into the best one(that could survive against the upcoming games in the future). I have around $950-$1k budget for the rig. Would you please help me with what to buy for my new PC ?

PS : I want to use the MSI RX 480 X8 Gaming GPU(is it good ?)

Thank you for your input.

I wouldn't say the 970 is more powerful than either a 1060 or a 480 - it is slightly weaker but not enough to warrant either of those 2 cards as an upgrade.
That's coming from an owner of 2 gtx 970 rigs who has no intention of upgrading either card at the moment.

You'd benefit from upping to an i5/i7.
We are getting to the stage now where 16gb ram is becoming the staple amount for a gaming build.
I'm not sure though that I'd upgrade on that board that only takes ddr3.

Should you ever upgrade the base system you'll have ram that is no use to you seeing as 99% of boards take ddr4 .
Well, in that case, if this is strictly used for gaming, an i5 will work just fine. If you are doing more, you can upgrade to a i7, but only if you truly need it. It's not going to help gaming by much. I also gave you two thinks of RAM. That 970 is still powerful, and doesn't truly need to be updated. I would wait before adding a new GPU. I would recommend a 1TB hard drive and 250GB of SSD for faster loading of some games and software. Use the savings to get a nice monitor.

Your best cpu upgrade would be to a I7-6700K.
Yes, it can not be overclocked, but even at stock 4.0 it is close to as good as it gets.

RX-480 will be a downgrade, it is not as strong as your GTX970.

Your 500w psu will support a GTX1070 which should run games well, even at 1440P.

I would definitely upgrade your hard drive to a SSD. 500gb Samsung evo is the best; repurpose your 500gb HDD for bulk storage or expansion.

You will need a cpu cooler. $35 buys you a scythe kotetsu, cryorig H7, or cm hyper212. That is all you need since you will not be overclocking.

Well he will certainly benefit from 2 extra cores...especailly in CPU intensive games...like GTA V.

Thank you so much bro. But uhh, i've been using this gpu for like 3 years, don't u think i need to change the card due to its durability ? I'm afraid that my gpu will break somehow :( this is the main reason why i want to change the rig. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

You can, but the 970 is still more powerful than the 1060. It is not necessary to get a new GPU now. Even then, you can upgrade to a GTX 1070 to save up.

So if i didn't change this GPU, it still could survive for the upcoming years(won't break) ? :D
