Hi all,

If budget is not an issue (but without getting unnecesary extras or more power than necessary) what would be the best components for building a top-end flight sim computer running many monitors? Considering 3 monitors for scenery, 2 for instruments and 1 touch screen for buttons, plus several Saitek USB components.

Thanks!!

The different brands of 1080 are just that, different brands. They all come with very slightly different clockspeeds but they're all the exact same chip.

With motherboards, the only major differences will be the ports on the back and number of expansion slots. The 7700 should be used with 2xx chipsets, e.g. H270, B250, Z270.

Thanks AMD_POTATO for those recommendations! I was indeed looking at the i7-7700, but then the search got more complicated, as there are different types of 1080s, whose difference I don't understand well, and a myriad options for motherboard, amount and type of RAM and size and type of SSD, Maybe a Gigabyte Gaming 7, 2x8GB 3000 RAM and an 800GB SSD Intel 750 (the new faster ones)? Any advice on specific capacities or models for these? I mostly get confused between the different sockets each MoBo has, regarding which ones better suit me or future-proofs my rig; whether the RAM speed, amount and model really matters, etc.

And my other concern is how to drive multiple panels: 3 for scenery, 2 for instruments and one touch screen for buttons; whether the one 1080 would handle all that, or whether to use it only for the 3 scenery monitors and use my older graphics card to drive the 2 instrument panels and the control touch-screen. Can all the plugs in the 1080 handle different monitors? Would it help to bridge two graphics cards with SLI or something similar, and if so, how to use them with the monitors?

And a minor point I ran into today is whether my current chassis's (Antec LanBoy Air) front panel with USB 1 and 2 plugs can be used with the new 3.0 and 3.1, or whether I need to invest also in a new chassis to get an updated panel - hopefully not? I'm assuming at least my power supply and water cooler I can keep, since it's also 1151 in my current i7 2600K setup.

Thanks again for your advice!!! :)

Get 16gb of ram a 250gb SSD don't do raid chose any 1080 you want all the difference is the coolers on them but I would recommend an EVGA GTX 1080 ftw you might want to consider running two gtx 1080s in SLI
