I have a Geforce 730gt and I bought a GEForce gtx 1050i. the motherboard is Z97. Is it as simple as putting both into the pci slots or is there more to it? Will both work at the same time to produce better performance?
If the two cards are different, you can only use one at a time. If you want both cards to work together, they both need to be the same, and only particular cards past a certain price point can do this. Neither your 730 nor 1050 are capable of this.

Don't do it man. Your better off taking all the money you have to those two card and purchasing a single higher end grahpcs card. You'll add more complexity to your build with additional potential issues. If your gpus are right on top of each other your cards will "pancakte" and one will overheat and die.
