Hi everyone!
I have finally made enough money to be able to afford a proper gaming PC, and after extensive browsing on the internet, I have decided to build my system around a server motherboard with 2 Xeon CPU's from eBay.
The only problem I'm facing right now, is that I'm not quite sure what type of PSU, and cables to get.
My build as of now:

  • Motherboard: Tyan S7012 (according to the manual: 1x 24-pin 12V(PW3) and 2x 8-pin 12V(PW1,PW4)
    CPU's: 2 x Xeon X5687
CPU coolers: 2 x Cooler Master 212 Evo 2(1x 4-pin [Fan Rated Voltage 12 VDC])
    Memory: 6 x 4GB ECC DDR3 1333
    VGA: ASUS RX480 8GB Strix (1x 8-pin)
    HDD: Seagate ST2000DX001 SSHD 2TB
I might add and SSD for the OS later
So the question is: What kind of PSU will I need that will support this system?
Will a normal (perhaps modular) PSU do? What kind of cables will I need?
I was thinking about using this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/262667603211

UPDATE:I realized that the PSU I originally wanted to buy had only 1 CPU power cord, and would not have worked with a dual CPU motherboard. So I bought an EVGA 1000W modular PSU that had 2 modular slots for CPU's.

Hey there.

So long as the PSU has the correct connectors for your MoBo and enough for your GPU (and SATA for HDD's/SSD's) you should be fine. 750 watts is usually plenty for most gaming systems, even with your 2x 130W TDP CPU's you probably won't exceed even 500W of power drawn, unless you're running multiple GPU's in SLI/Crossfire or something.

So I'd say that PSU is fine for your build, however I'd suggest waiting for another comment to confirm this, maybe I'm missing something as I haven't worked with server motherboards before and am aware that sometimes they have proprietary connectors etc.
