I launched csgo with my new 144hz monitor, expecting to get atleast a constant 144fps on 1920x1080, but my fps is terrible, it cant even maintain a solid 144fps on low settings with 1080p. it fluctuates from 90-150fps. I don't know whats wrong but I know my gpu and cpu should be getting a lot more fps considering the game is on the lowest settings. If anyone could help me out that would be great, thanks in advance!

Specs:
GTX 970 SSC EVGA
i5 3570 3.4ghz
24gb ddr3 corsair vengeance RAM
750w PSU
ASUS p8z77-v LK Motherboard

Hi, some suggestions to try:

CSGO is not an extremely demanding game, more cpu intensive online albeit if you set the game's graphics too low your cpu will get used more. Try more aggressive graphics setting like up'ing more AA or increase resolution in Nvidia's dsr even.

If running Windows 10, have a look (search about) at xbox's dvr and how it can have an effect on fps and try disable it.

Could be driver related also, not impossible to happen a latest driver improves a game but breaks something else.

Is your monitor gsync? If so, have you tried disabling vsync in Nvidia cp?

Have you set to a high performance plan in both Windows and Nvidia?

Always use the clean install option Nvidia gives in their driver package. DDU can be helpful but unnecessary if keeping to a same brand of hardware.

To get an idea of your system can you please list your system specs and bit of history. Like have you done an os upgrade and if so have you done a reset since? And also bit of report on how things were before your 144hz monitor, how was the system running then? Csgo has fps commands to unlimit / fps display count, how many fps were you getting?

My fps was was definately not this low before I got my monitor, I also did do a clean install last night, I installed all the drivers for my Mobo and gpu, I reinsallted the video drivers and no change, still getting about 100 fps in a 5v5 game, on low 1080p. And yes I came from win7 to 10, I've diabled vsync in the nvidia control panel as well, have all set to high performance aswell

Thanks.

Check all memory is being recognized in bios that all 24GB is being registered.

Being a 144Hz monitor, are you using a DVI DL cable for video? I'm guessing you are able to set 144Hz in Windows but just checking since csgo can view raw fps output.

90/150fps is still very good considering you're running low video settings. Lower settings do offload more to the cpu so try raising video settings and see if fps change. Use a monitoring tool like MSI afterburner with builtin Riva tuner to monitor cpu/gpu usage while playing games. There are tutorials on youtube on how to set the program up.

You don't want 100% cpu usage, a happy medium between both cpu <80~% and gpu >80~100%

Check background running processes, cpu and hdd usage in Windows also. A lean os with not much going on in the background while playing games is always delightful.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am using a DVI DL cable, I have 144hz set up, but all the benchmark videos I have watched with the same specs are getting much better fps, and atleast a solid 144, like I know 90/150 is good but with a 144hz monitor it pretty much makes it useless

Have you test with other non taxing games like l4d?

benchmark video's are not a good comparison to go by especially if the cpu in the video is overclocked

Try a single player game not as taxing for the gtx970 and see if your fps is more consistent. Can overclock your cpu but not by much wouldn't be worth it. Hows your cpu temps? Is it boosting to 3.8Ghz ok?

An idea might be to find an unlocked cpu(ie; 3570K)cpu for your motherboard and overclock it. Check your cpu usage with msi afterburner, if its near or at 100% it's bottlenecking you.

I am downloading MSI afterburner right now, I'm new to this and what should I be looking for? Edit: I ran csgo with MSI afterburner up and most of my cores were being used at about %60-80 where as my gpu usage was sitting around %30, and temps were about 50 degrees

No, when I up the video settings the fps stays around the same and sometimes a bit lower and yes my gpu is in the pcie closest to my cpu.
