Hi, i'm currently using a a10 7850k with 8gb ddr3 and a gtx 1060 6gb. I guess that my CPU could bottleneck the graphics card.. I was wondering if an upgrade to an i3 6100 with 8gb ddr4 will make any difference? or maybe a i5 6400. What you people suggest?

Thanks

Given that you'd have to go with a new motherboard as well as CPU, I'm not sure there's enough of a difference to justify the cost, at least, judging by the fact that in the hierarchy chart, the modern i5 is only 3 tiers above the CPU you already have.

I too would go with the 6400 as its a true quad core but the i3 6100 still outperforms the FX8xxx series for gaming and is a significant upgrade over the OP's current cpu

the 6400 is a fantastic cpu and as said above is true quad core, i personally would jump for a i5, no point in getting a i3 then a year later buying a i5 just opt for the i5 IMO how much more is the i5 than the i3 where you live OP?

Wait till Feb 27 the do buy any CPU. That's when NDA lifts on zen and internet will be filled with reviews along with price cuts from Intel. Then see what the best way forward will be.

No point getting a CPU now and then feeling like shooting yourself a month down the line

haha i have to agree with this, i mean its intel there just always expensive that "premium" price tag

Intel's had premium chips, hence the premium pricetag. The initial price of the fx 9590 was laughable due to performance, amd isn't in the business of being the discount bin cpu. They have had little choice though other than to price their cpus in accordance with performance. An i5 would require a new motherboard, ddr4 ram would be preferable (most skylake/kabylake boards and amd's ryzen am4 platform moving forward are all ddr4). Also a reinstall of windows which may or may not mean buying a new copy depending if the current version is oem or full retail.

If the prices are similar I'd consider the 6500 over the 6400. Usually the price isn't much different and the 6500 is 300mhz faster. The i3 is still a good performer but depending on the game it may suffer a bit from only having two cores. Hyperthreading helps but in games like witcher 3, bf1 etc it's going to result in more fps drops and lower min fps.
