Hello,

I have as my motherboard currently a Gigabyte F2A68HM-HD2 and as my CPU an AMD Athlon X4 860K. I would like to switch to an Intel processor. I've now bought an Intel i5 6500 and a Gigabyte H110M-S2H Motherboard. When I replace the 2 components what should I do when booting the computer to install a fresh version of windows and delete the current one. I have a legitimate license with the disc and everything. Sorry if this sounds nooby this is literally the first time I've ever actually replaced components myself.

Thanks for all the responses

I have done this myself manny times yes this should work fine just uninstall your old motherboards drivers then install your new mobo and CPU and install the new drivers and reactivate windows in settings
Good luck :)

So you have a retail version of Windows? And is it 7 or 10? If you have the retail version you can install Windows with the key that came with the disk with no issues once you have the PC back together.
You don't really have to do a fresh install however most people recommend it. Going from AMD to Intel will require extra work if you want to just keep using your current installation.

when you boot the first time with your disc in the drive you're going to prompt your pc to boot from the disk while still in the bios. it's usually hitting delete or escape or something a bunch of times. windows will boot from the disc and give you recovery/install options.
