Is the i7 6700k worth over clocking?

so i intend to buy an i7-6700k and i was wondering whether its worth over clocking. This is because the cheapest z170 chipset motherboard is around £100 where as some b110 or h110 can be found for around £50 but it stops me from overclocking, then i will also need to spend a decent amount on a cooler. Is it really worth almost £100 more for these things and will it affect my fps much in games when oced?

I have this CPU with a Z170 board and mildly overclocked just to see the difference in benchmarks. Stock it benchmarked using Passmark software at +-11200 but when overclocked I was able to get it to +-12000.

I can't see this making any noticeable difference in games and would not be worth it in my opinion. The processor is a beast stock.

You are going to need an aftermarket cooler anyway as this CPU doesn't come with one.

Most of the time overclocking your CPU will provide some (but minimal) frame rate increases.
Personally I don't think it would be worth the extra cost. However, that ability can come in handy some day if you attempt to run a game that is just out side of your CPU's ability. Overclocking can be a difference maker... But as for today's games that CPU (even without overclocking) is more than enough.

It's up to you. I wouldn't get the 6700K if you're not going to get the Z170 chipset. If that's the case then just get the 6700 (with out the K at the end) and you'll find it's a bit cheaper as well.

I would agree with the statements above... With current games, overclocking is not necessary...

However, I kinda think it is fun, plus you have the potential as mentioned above to increase your speed later if necessary... If you have the money, I'd say go for it because of the potential... If not, don't worry about it...

If it is only a few dollars difference, definitely would get the K version as you stated, plus you get a faster stock clock than with the non-K version.

Plus... A consideration... If you had the choice between a 4.0 and 4.6 ghz processor and the price difference was 20 bucks, you definitely go for the one that was 4.6... And that type of overclock is pretty common on the 6700k...

I got a little luck with mine and it does 5 ghz pretty easy... It's fun... Try it.. :)
