Hi,

This is an old issue and as far as I know resolved by disabling CPU power saving features (C1/3/6 EIST, turbo, etc).

This did originally work for me with my i3 2100 (last i remeber) but i recently got an i5 2400. After installing this CPU I can only get the CPU noise issue to stop when I limit the CPU to 2 cores instead of 4. Obviously I would like to use all 4 cores but cant as the CPU noise across the speakers is very loud. Even only 2 CPUS enables ther is still some humm on the speakers.

The sound issue occurs on the built in audio and my external usb audio interface.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be? I want to test my old i3 to see if the issue is the same but I'm waiting on some thermal paste before i can switch the cpus out.

Hi,

The CPU 'processing' can be herd as interferance on the speakers. Similar to a ground loop where you have lots of static/noise on your speakers when they should be silent.

When in the Bios every time the CPU freq clock changes you can hear it on the speakers like a ticking clock, along with noise when i move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard.

Thanks for the help, I do have a USB sound card (Komplete Audio 6) and it has the same issue.

My MOBO does have a MIC socket but it doesnt have a MIC built in if thats what you mean?

The problem can be fixed by dropping the CPUS cores down to 1 in the BIOS so I think this points to it being something todo with BIOS/CPU?
