RAM no longer working after cpu upgrade

Hi, recently I upgraded one of my spare PCs by changing out the CPU (Celeron 420 to Q8400). I previously had 2 x 2GB sticks of 1333Mhz DDR3 running perfectly fine in the system but after the upgrade the PC only posts with a single stick.

The motherboard gives off the beep code for bad memory whenever I put the second stick in any slot.

I have tried resetting the CMOS by removing the battery and using the jumper on the motherboard and I have made sure the DIMMS are fully inserted into the slots.

PC specs:
HP Pegatron IPIEL-LA3 motherboard (maybe being weird with the RAM because it's an OEM board?)
Core2Quad Q8400
2 x 2GB Samsung 1333MHz DDR3 (HP branded, one stick has memory chips on both sides, one has chips only on one side, maybe this is an issue?)

I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas on how to get the second stick working.

Thanks :)

It should work fine with the Core 2 Quad. The frequency of the C2Q is 1333mHz, which means it should theoretically run. From what I've seen, OEM motherboards are VERY finicky about different CPUs. Your motherboard supports that CPU and the ram, which is odd. Does your system boot and run with one of the DIMMs?

Thanks for answering. Yeah the system boots and runs stable with the double sided DIMM but as soon as the other is added or ran on its own the system won't post :??:

I tried cleaning the pins on the DIMM but no luck. The board has 4 slots which all work with the first DIMM. I will test the DIMM in another PC to double check it hasn't died when I was swapping the ram out.

The PC it was originally in ran flawlessly but there is a chance dust may have made it onto the base of the cpu or in the socket so I will take it apart and have a look

The first DIMM works in every slot on its own but the second DIMM doesn't work in any slot on its own or with the first DIMM installed.

The RAM stick with chips on both sides is probably a low density RAM and the other is high density. I am going to say this *may* cause issues with the new processor. The second DIMM you mentioned that does not work at all might need to be replaced. Do you have any other RAM to test? If not, maybe run it with 1 stick in and buy a matching stick or get a new kit with 2 identical sticks.

I'm experiencing the same problem with same motherboard Ipiel LA3.. After putting in Q9505 quad from duo E7500, my computer only likes 2 x1 gb ram but won't support my 2gb stick also (computer came with 4gb like that) I did an Intel Cpu diagnostics check and didn't see any issues with the CPU. PSU is Corsair VS550.
