sapphire 7970 oc edition windows amd fx 8350 rog coisshair v formula z motherboard. its seem like the dual link dvi cable that came supplied is not capable of supporting 144hz, my card only has mini display ports and the dvi inputs so i m not using hdmi cos i know that wudnt support either. or mayb ethis montor only works with nvidia stuff? alot of the software seemed tobe nvidia which i was unable to install as im using amd. have done clean install using ddu and have unistallled an reinstalled the monitor drivers still no change, i did notce however that the function to create custom resolution in crimson control center seems to not work at all right now either.
In the manual it says "You must select one of the “*” timing for enabling 3D or 144Hz feature with a compatible graphic card via Dual-link DVI cable connection."

so when i check crimson its says that the cable provided was a DVI I cable and from what ive been readin g i need a DVI D cable to get 144hz cos the monitor isnt offering me the option to do that with dvi i cable thats in.
As far as I know both support it. DVI-I just has the extra analogue pins that wont plug into a DVI-D socket, but they aren't used for digital video anyway. I think it's more likely you need to set the timing frequency on your monitor.
well it seems simple just change the timings he said. except for the fact that im am given no option to change refresh rate in amd /windows/ and on the monitor itself. it also says nvdioa gpu there on ur picture i dont have a nvidia so whats next?

ive seen this suggested elsewhere also. the problems is how do i do that. as far as i know there shud be a more option when i got to inoput type and then click on dvi. but there isnt. is there supposed to be a button im supposed to press cos i can t find one,
Try changing the adaptive sync setting to on. The monitor is actually more compatible with AMD cards than Nvidia http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_mg248q.htm
Do you know which of the three models of that card you have? And are you sure it's Dual Link DVI?
im sorry all i know its radeon sapphire oc edition was best card i cud buy 5 years ago. and yes its definatlely dual dvi it even says it on the cable which also came with monitor
You may need it in user mode, which would mean turning off gaming mode and any other preset you've chosen.
i have turned it to user mode with and deleted any saved preset still no option.i also noticed i have 2 ports on my graphics card one for dvi i and one for dvi d still it gives me the same results.
Really odd. Am wondering if your GPU is not capable of 144Hz. What options do you have in Radeon Settings and Windows Display Settings? Something doesn't seem right here does it lol.,

Easier to buy a DP cable, but yeas that card has a dual-link DVI output according to the specs so should do 144Hz http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/7000/7900#

are u sure that adapter will work? that look like it converts it from dvi to display port however the lightning only has 4 mini display ports on it
Oops did I link one the wrong way around.. but yeah you get the idea. And no definitely cant be sure it'd work. In that link to your card above the poster said he tried 4 before finding one that did. Seriously just get a mini Display Port to Display Port cable. I am positive this 1.2 cable would work http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158233
