PC specifications:

Cpu; i7 5820k
GPUs: gtx 1080 x 2 (identical)
Motherboard: Asus rampage V extreme.

Problem:

Hi,
I just bought 2 gtx 1080 with the purpose of using them in SLI. My previous gpu build was 3x sli titan x (old version), set up in first, second and third slot. Never had any problems.

Introduced the 1080s and i have the following problem;
If i connect the cards on slot 1 and slot 2, device manager recognizes the cards and so does nvidia control panel. However i do not have the option to set up sli. I have tried everything, drivers, clean install etc etc. It just doesn't show up.

If i connect the cards on slot 1 and slot 3, i now have the option to set up sli. However the Hb bridge that came with the card is too small. I tried two old flexible bridges but i got artifacts and crashed in game.

Upon further investigating i realised that when connecting the gpus to slots 1 and 2 i was running gpu one on PCie16 3.0 @ x16 1.1 and gpu two on PCie x 16 2.0 @ x4 1.1. As far as i know sli cannot run under x8.

Why is the first one running at x16 and second one running at x4 instead of x8. Is there any way i can force the second one to run at x8?

I dont know, really need some help guys. been at this all day

Hi frank,
Thanks for the reply. I cannot connect it to the 4th slot because the psu is in the way. If i connect it to slot 1 and 3 it shows as x16 and x8 . Is that ok? i tried connecting them with normal sli bridges but got artifacts and crashed. Im hoping the proper nvidia hb bridge will solve that issue.
