SOLVED - Resolution below

tl;dr: Physically installed a M.2 SSD through a PCIe adapter. Wasn't being noticed in bios. Updated bios, and then both of my drives crash on Windows 7 load.

Specs:
Mobo: ASUS M5A97
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970

History/Transcript:
~2013: My motherboard and WD HDD work just fine.

Early 2016: Install new GPU - GTX 970. New Kraken water cooler for the CPU. New case.

Late December 2016: I was gifted a PNY 120 gb Sata SSD. I installed it on my system and installed windows. I installed some basic software on there. Installed Overwatch. Everything worked fine. I still use my old HDD for my audio production, which at this point was working just fine.

January 12th, 2017: Physicslly install a Samsung NVMe SSD 960 EVO M.2 into a PCIe adapter, the Lycom DT-120.

January 12th continued:
After physically installing that new SSD through the adapter I logged into my PNY SSD (which has windows 7). In the windows browser it was not noticing my PCIe SSD. I restarted and checked the bios and it was also not noticed there. I went back to windows on my PNY SSD and researched into updating my BIOS for my ASUS M5A97. The newest update from their website is from 2012.. but I though installing it might help it notice my PCIe SSD.
After installing that bios update it restarted my system and loaded bios.

During the windows loading logo, I got my BSOD error: 0x0000007B (FFFFF880009A97E8, w)......((I took a video during the BSOD crashes and tried to look back to see what the error code was. It closes so quickly so I could only gather that much.))

In bios I noticed my PNY SSD wasn't being seen anymore.. ?

So, now my PNY SSD with windows 7 is crashing load.
I tried booting to my old HDD with windows 7, same issue.

I'm stuck in BIOS and can't boot any windows with either drive.

I find my MOBO disk, version "1896" and insert it. Through my bios, I go to advanced and Tools. I use the flash tool and locate the .ROM file on the cd and "install" it to my mobo bios. Restart.

Now bios is reverted to its "original" stock setting, not the "newer (2012)" update I downloaded and installed on my SSD. Now bios is noticing the PNY SSD again.

Both windows are crashing on load for both drives STILL.

I'm out of ideas and getting desperate. I found a CD for the same motherboard but maybe one version earlier. (I had replaced an ASUS M5A97 before 2013 with ANOTHER (my current mobo) ASUS M5A97. So I thought, let's just try doing that same flash bios, using the cd to find that .ROM file. I found it and the bios interface totally accepted it and installed it.
It prompted me to restart so I did.

Now BIOS isn't even loading. Lights turn on, fans are spinning. Keyboard and mouse aren't yet lighting up.

This is the hole I dug myself into and I dont know how to get out.

I figure my drives are still okay but my mobo and it's bios are totally scrambled and non functional. At the very least I'd really like to retrieve about 0.75gb of personal data my from my HDD.

What are my options? Can I somehow restore my mobo to absolute stock settings PURELY through physical hardware maneuvers?

Thank you.

0x0000007B can mean you've either changed it from IDE to AHCI (after windows has been installed), in the BIOS

Or you've installed a hdd that was from another system (it may have been on IDE when windows was installed).

And the system it crashed in / on was on AHCI in the BIOS.

Basically it means because no sata drivers were installed during the windows install, changing it to AHCI in the BIOS will crash it. Because it cant find the hdd

As for the 960 EVO, this ssd (if you use it as an NVME), usually needs drivers so it'll appear in the BIOS.

But I dont know if thats going to happen if youre using an adapter. On this mobo

I would get a latesr BIOS off the site. The one on cd is probably out of date, then reflash the BIOS using crashfree BIOS if this supports it

I took it into Seattle Computers. Kevin there was able to help me. He diagnosed my CPU as fried. As to how it got fried, through messing with flashing the BIOS, he wasn't sure. He also said that maybe the latest BIOS update I downloaded didn't completely download, or something.

His solution was: Install new CPU, then flash the BIOS with the latest update, tuck in a few things for Windows, and done!
