I custom built my own pc in September and in the past month it would occasiobally shut off and start up again without warning. Today it now starts up and shuts down as soon as i open anything.

Specs:
Cpu: I5 6500 3.2ghz quad core
Gpu: Evga gtx 1060 sc 6gb
Ram: 16gb corsair lpx ddr4 2400mhz
Hdd: Seagate 1tb 7200rpm
Mobo: gigabyte h170 gaming 3
Psu: cougar stx750 750w
Case: nzxt s340
Cooler: hyper 212x

I have watched the temperatures and usage just before it has shut off and nothing is spiking or acting strange.

Please can someone help me to figure out the source of the problem.

Solution
If temps are okay then only thing that can make your PC randomly shut down is your crappy PSU.
Cougar does make one of the best case fans but their PSUs are usually low quality. Your PSU has only 80+ certification. I don't use nor suggest any PSU that has lower than 80+ Bronze certification.

I suggest that you replace your PSU. Here's PSU Tier list: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
Aim for a Tier two PSU, preferably Tier one if you could afford it.

Anything from Seasonic is great, for you, i suggest Seasonic G-550. It's Tier two, has 80+ Gold certification, semi-modular cables and comes with 5 years of warranty.

All my 3 PCs: Skylake, Haswell and AMD are also powered by Seasonic. (Got PRIME series in Skylake, M12II EVO series in Haswell and S12II series in AMD, full specs in my sig.)

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I do want to get a better one as when i was looking for parts i just chose a psu with the good wattage, which was stupid of me.

So i took the pc apart put it all back together and dusted it down checked for shortages the lot turned my pc on and went for new gpu drivers. After doing all of this i can now go on the pc and play csgo without it crashing or rebooting, so so far so good. Im going to put it through some hardware intense games and see if its fixed.

P.S i will buy a new psu when i have the chance as i said i got the one i did because it was within the price range.

To test your system stability, there are many programs to use.
For GPU, i use Unigine Heaven: https://unigine.com/products/benchmarks/heaven/
For RAM, there is MemTest86: http://www.memtest86.com/
For CPU, there is Prime95: http://www.mersenne.org/download/

Ive tried ark, arma 3, csgo and overwatch on quick offline matches and it hasnt crashed.

So my pc is fixed and it turns out from the log files that the update for windows 10 i did yesterday conflicted with my drivers for my 1060 which is why i couldnt install new ones until i scanned the full system.

Thank you so much Aeacus for your replies and assistance.

Hello,

Im pretty new to this. I am looking for some help/suggestions as to why my computer retarts when I run games such as Diable 3 and LoL. I do know my system is dated, is that the issue? I am open to suggestions about some upgrades that I could do as I am willing to spend some money, but I am looking for a modest system as I am not interetsed in runnig games such as Battlefield on ultra settings. Being able to play Diablo and LoL without any problems will be enough.

My current system:

Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

CPU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Kentsfield 65nm Technology

RAM
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (5-5-5-18)

Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5N32-E SLI (Socket 775)

Graphics
LG ULTRAWIDE (2560x1080@60Hz
4096MB ATI Radeon RX 460 Graphics

Storage
119GB OCZ-VERT EX4 SCSI Disk Device (ATA)
232GB SAMSUNG SP2504C SCSI Disk Device

Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D ATA Device

Audio
AMD High Definition Audio Device

Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

What's your PSU make and model (or part number)?

For example, my Skylake's PSU make is Seasonic and model is PRIME 650. My PSU part number is SSR-650TD.

Also what are your temps while gaming or benchmarking?

This is a pic of my PSU. Has that got all of the information you need? I will have to find out my temps if you need that info. Sorry I am a noob haha.

"noob" is a slang that means of a person who is new to something and refuses to learn to be better at it.
I prefer using "newbie" that means of a person who is also new to something but is eager to learn to be better at it.

If you get your restarts due to high temps then fixing it costs little money. But if you have temps in normal range then we need to look elsewhere.

As far as temps go, there are ton of different programs to use. I personally use little program called Speccy,
link: https://www.piriform.com/speccy
It's easy to use and understand.

For more in-depth analyzing and temps, many users use HWinfo64,
link: https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php
I also have it but don't use it all the time.

As far as your PSU goes, i didn't find much info about it. What i was able to find is that it's not of the best quality PSU. No 80+ certification alone shows it's low quality PSU.

Haha newbie then!

Using Speccy I have looked at the temps, when idle CPU 50 and Mobo/GPU/storage are all around 30/40. I am currently playing Hearthstone and can see that the CPU has rises to 61, Mobo 54, GPU 48 and storage has stayed at around 30.

The processor and motherboard I am using is at least 7 years old, my mothers partner let me have it when he upgraded all that time ago. Back then I didn't care much for PC gaming but now I'm slowly converting. Could the age of the hardware be the problem?

Update- I just started up Diablo with Speccy running, the computer restarted after a couple of mins playing when the CPU headted to around 65!

Also.. when I play Hearthstone I seem to be able to play it without any porblems, even when the temp does rise. I only get restarts with LoL and Diablo.

Your temps seem to be in normal range.

For you, i'd say that the age of your PC is the main factor why you can't play modern games.
As time progresses, components do wear out and efficiency drops, until to the point where they fail completely.

Though, you can however go for new PSU to see if it makes a difference or not. Getting new PSU now might solve your restart issues and you can get some more time out of your PC. But when new PSU doesn't help then you can reuse it in your new build.

The Seasonic G-550 that i suggested above will do just fine. For example, you can run up-to-the-date PC with GTX 1060 just fine with Seasonic G-550. You can even go as high as GTX 1070 is with 550W Seasonic PSU.

As far as new build goes, you can look my PCs as a guideline, full specs in my sig. According to the today's standards my Skylake is high-end gaming/ OC (overclock) rig and my Haswell is medium-end gaming rig (with good upgrade ability due to the Z-series MoBo). I'm keeping my old AMD around for retro gaming though (games released in 2005 and prior).
