Users knowledgable of power supplies, would I be able to run a hd 7970 on this psu?

The hd 7970 requires I have an 8 pin and 6 pin pci-e connector but I only have the 6 pin connector on the psu. Would I be able to run the card If I purchased an 8 pin connector and connected it to the molex connectors?

Maybe, but I'd personally recommend purchasing a new power supply if you already have a the graphics card. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend getting that card.

you're better off getting another PSU. yes, you can use an adapter but you don't know how much or how little power the cable will supply so you could end up damaging the GPU
