It doesnt *need* a 10 bit feed, it just means thats the maximum, and you can only achieve that via DP and a card that can output it, but you can still connect at a lower color depth via DP or regular HDMI.
Whether the 780 can output 10 bit at the maximum 1440p supported res is another matter. It's unlikely but have never tried myself.
